We've compiled the most common questions about first appointments, treatments, payments and booking. If you don't find your answer, speak to us directly.
What to expect before, during and after your first visit to the clinic.
Your first appointment is dedicated to getting to know you and understanding the state of your oral health. It includes a full clinical evaluation, panoramic X-ray if necessary, clarification of all your questions and presentation of a personalised treatment plan.
There's no obligation — you'll leave with a clear diagnosis and the decision to proceed is always yours.
Ideally, bring your ID card, your health insurance card (if you have one) and any recent exams — X-rays, reports from other doctors or treatment history. These help us make a more accurate diagnosis from the very first minute.
Around 45 to 60 minutes. We reserve this time so we can evaluate carefully, listen to your concerns and answer all your questions before suggesting any treatment.
Yes. We have dedicated paediatric dentistry in a welcoming environment adapted for children. Our goal is for your child to develop a positive relationship with the dentist from the start, with prevention and care provided without fear.
How our most popular treatments work and what to expect from each one.
They are custom-made transparent trays that you change every 1–2 weeks. Each new tray moves your teeth by a few tenths of a millimetre, gradually and comfortably.
The aligners are removable for eating and brushing your teeth, and nearly invisible in everyday life — a discreet alternative to traditional fixed braces.
No. The implant is placed under local anaesthetic, so you won't feel pain during the surgery. Post-operatively you may experience some discomfort or mild swelling, which is well managed with common painkillers in the first 24–48 hours.
Most patients return to their routine the next day.
The surgery itself lasts between 30 and 60 minutes per implant. Full rehabilitation — from implant placement to final crown — can take 3 to 6 months, depending on case complexity and the time needed for osseointegration (the implant bonding to the bone).
We combine different treatments depending on your goals: professional whitening, dental veneers, aesthetic composite or ceramic restorations, and correction of minor misalignments. The plan is always tailored to you — the goal is a natural result, not an artificial one.
Everything about insurance, payment plans, quotes and invoicing.
Yes. Kooldent accepts SNS Cheques-Dentista for every eligible group, including children and young people covered by the programme, pregnant women, recipients of the Complemento Solidário para Idosos and people living with HIV/AIDS. If you have any doubts about eligibility or how to use your voucher, our team will be glad to help.
Kooldent does not work under direct agreements with insurers. However, we issue invoices with all the information you need to claim reimbursement from your insurer, whenever your plan includes the free-choice option.
We work with a clear, transparent price list, so you know the cost of your treatment in advance, with no surprises.
Many of our patients have health insurance and, even without a direct agreement, choose to have their treatment with us and then claim the reimbursement from their insurer.
This allows us to keep our clinical approach and the treatments we consider most suitable for each patient, without being constrained by the specific rules of each agreement.
Yes. For some treatments, Kooldent allows payment in stages, subject to an assessment of the treatment plan and its cost.
The conditions are always set out clearly before treatment begins.
Of course. After your first appointment, we provide a detailed treatment plan with costs, timescales and phases. There's no obligation whatsoever — you can take the quote, think it over carefully and decide later if you'd like to proceed with us.
Yes. We always issue an invoice with your tax ID, valid for reimbursement by your health insurance and tax deductible as healthcare expenses. We'll ask for your tax details at the time of payment.

Kooldent is in Oliveira do Douro, Vila Nova de Gaia. There is free parking right outside and in the streets around the clinic.
As it is a busy area, we recommend arriving about 5 minutes before your appointment, to give yourself some margin in case you don't find a space straight away.
